be a catalyst for change

Why do we do our Challenges?

We hope to continue the work of the National Hero by promoting and practicing the Art of the Learning Organization and Schools that Learn of Dr. Peter M Senge, and the Theory U Innovation Lab process of Dr. C Otto Scharmer, authors, senior lecturers, and cohorts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Mass. USA.

These two methodologies applied together promote Awareness-based Systems Change, or how to transform mindsets of Leadership from an Egoistic to an Eco-system perspective. Eco-system leadership is about seeing that we are all part and parcel of the Whole, People co-existing with each other and the Planet in mutual respect, harmony and compassion, doing our part for a better, brighter future.

Sustaining Structures – Rizal SDG Heroes Challenge

After their three month learning journey, graduates will be requested to upload their 5-minute videos on the Learning Nation platform. From these videos, a panel of judges composed of representatives from the different organisations supporting the initiative will choose the winning entries under three different categories – Best Team/School Initiative, Best Eco-system Leader Teacher (as nominated by their peers).

The winning entries will be acknowledged during the 2021 Annual National Rizal Youth Leadership Institute (NRYLI) Conference held in December and receive their cash prices from sponsors to continue their SDG initiative.

Teacher graduates of the course will also become part of the TRAIL learning community and will be invited to regular sessions for continuous professional development • Student graduates will be encouraged to join the Kabataan Panagarap Ni Rizal (KAPARIZ) organization in their schools.

TOGETHER WE CAN DO GREAT THINGS.

    Program Design

More than just knowledge and skills, TRAIL hopes to inspire the Filipino Teacher towards bringing out the best in themselves and their students. Referred to as Vertical Literacy , now, more than ever, our Youth need to have a strong foundation of what is true and good in the Filipino and be motivated to actualise their full potential. Sharing the story of how Dr. Rizal studied in earnest and later on shared his knowledge in service of the community in Dapitan would be a good example for this.

Thus, the Program for Teachers will use Dr. Rizal as the example of an Eco-system Leader during the last three and half years of his life in Dapitan. In this tiny island, Rizal taught the community new ways to farm, to fish, set up an irrigation system, set up street lighting. He put up a school and taught the Youth leadership that was courageous and respectful. He was also a researcher of plants and insects, showing care for the environment. During his free time, he would sculpt and draw developing his artistic talent. He was a doctor who charged the rich and gave his services for free to the poor. Surely, the country would benefit if there were more Teachers like Rizal*, and as a result, influence our Youth, the hope of our Motherland.
